About Bill

Who, What, When, and Where...The Short Story

Garland, Texas has never been the same since my birth on May 4, 1970. I am the oldest of four. The other three, equally rambunctious children and I, grew up in a very fun loving household. I am the only boy, so protecting and harassing my sisters was and continues to be, a most favorite pastime of mine.

In 1992 I graduated College from the University of Texas at Austin. While working full time through college as a bellman for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, Hyatt offered me the opportunity to advance into management. I worked my way through the company and when I left 11 years later I was the Corporate Manager of Information Systems at their Chicago headquarters. From that rich experience, I have an extensive technical background in both computer network engineering and hospitality management which continues to serve me well today. Now almost 12 years into my Real Estate career, I have accumulated a wide variety of Real Estate experience. In that time, I have achieved the following accomplishments:

  • Voted “Rookie of the Year” in 1999 by the Chaffee County Board of Realtors
  • I am a GRI (Graduate, Realtor Institute), an advanced Real Estate designation
  • I am a CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) an advanced Real Estate designation
  • I am an e-PRO (Internet Specialist) an advanced Real Estate designation
  • I have been a Director for the Chaffee County Board of Realtors for 7 years
  • MLS Director for the Chaffee County Board of Realtors for 6 years
  • 2005-2006 President of the Chaffee County Board of Realtors
  • I am Collegiate Peaks Realty’s Managing Broker

Strong Ties to the Area

My Mother grew up in the Chalk Creek area of Nathrop and went to school in Buena Vista. My Grandmother, “Mrs. Bailey” was a first grade teacher in Buena Vista for 20 years before retiring. I still run into people all the time that remember being in her class and they always smile warmly when they think of her. At one time, probably during the 60’s, my Grandfather was the only plumber in Buena Vista and later started Bailey plumbing. Under different ownership today, that company still continues to thrive. He had a voice like Marty Robbins and used to sing to us as kids and take me fishing, we all miss them both. Since the early 70’s my family not only frequented the area to visit my grandparents, but we owned a wonderful cabin in Alpine and spent the holidays and summers exploring all the wonders of Chaffee County. Finally, on a long held promise to my Mother, my Father moved her back to the area in 1992.

About Our Company

In 1994 my Father, Mike Lockett, started Collegiate Peaks Realty. Over the next few years he spoke often about me joining the firm and after much thought about the benefits of raising my two girls in a small town atmosphere, I joined the firm as his partner in 1999. It was to be the best move I have ever made.

My other love is teaching and training others. I am an Instructor and Range Master for a large firearms training facility in Nevada that dedicates itself to providing the most state of the art firearms and tactics training to law enforcement, military, and civilians. I am qualified to instruct courses in handgun, shotgun, sub gun, and M16. I have had the pleasure of donating, and continue to donate training to the local law enforcement community. And last but not least I also enjoy the following activities: scuba diving (certified Rescue and nitrox diver), swimming (ex University of Texas swimmer), cooking, working out, yoga, mountain biking, hiking, running, and most of all exploring all the riches of this beautiful area with my two remarkable girls Tyler (11) and Caitie (9). They would also have me add coloring, painting, sewing, playing games, puzzling, reading books to them, geocaching, rock hunting, and anything else they like to do.

Basically, I have a truly wonderful life. Thank you for taking the time to read about it.

"Bill Lockett has been our realtor for several years now, and has guided us through the purchase of two homes and the sale of one. His attention to detail and professionalism made the transactions seamless. as a professional in the industry I work with several realtors and quite frankly no one compares across the board." - Dirk H P.
"Bill Lockett has been the most patient agent I've ever had. I've been trying to move from Highlands Ranch to Buena Vista since spring. It took a while to sell my house in H.R. due to the economy, but he has stuck with me and been very supportive. While I waited I looked at numerous houses getting ready for the time mine would sell. It's now under contract, and the very first house I looked at and loved was still available. Bill has helped so much in finalizing that deal and getting me down the road to purchasing my dream home. Thanks Bill!" - Sandy H.
"My wife and I have been trying to relocate back to Colorado for several years and plan to relocate in the next year. Bill has been a valuable asset in making our move possible. He not only has assisted us with finding our dream Buena Vista in town lot for our log home, he has sold an investment property for us, assisted us in the acquisition of an in town lot where my wife may build her new office for her CPA practice. We have also requested him to review many properties for us for investment and/or office use over the years and he has always assisted us in a very professional manner." - Jeff and Tish G.
"We have been pleased to be clients of Bill Lockett for several years, engaged in all or parts of four real estate transactions. Bill has the essential characteristics to make the process both successful and enjoyable, including knowledge, experience and integrity, yet most importantly, a great attitude. We look forward to furthering our relationship with him." - Doug & Charlotte D
"Bill always made us feel at home - the welcoming atmosphere in the office combined with Bill's friendly demeanor made our home-buying experience very memorable! Thanks, Bill, for helping us find our dream vacation home, and for all the 'insider information' on the BV area - you made us feel at home before we'd even moved in!" - Mary R, Littleton, CO
"After spending a week on vacation in Buena Vista, my family and I decided to purchase property in the area. After doing our own drive around tour of the area, we decided that we could benefit from the expertise of a local realtor, familiar with the entire area, not just a sub-division or two. Bill Lockett was who we chose after visiting with several Buena Vista based realtors. He took the time to listen to what we desired to look at and took us to properties that were relevant to our desire and budget. Bill and his support staff made, what so often can be a stressful transaction, a very smooth one. Anytime a friend or business associate asks for a realtor reference, they get Bill Lockett's cell phone number. Bill Lockett has earned our business and loyalty for a lifetime." - Mark S.
